Restauration: craftmanship.
8-meter class "VARG III"
This boat, designed by Johan Anker, dates from 1927 and was ready to be crapped. Van Noort was contracted by the owners to restore the ship extensively. The total restoration took about four years. During this period, we:

1. replaced the teak keel and rudder post completely;
2. partly replaced the old steel frame's under the waterline by new stainless steel frame's;
3. replaced the entire mahogany planking of the hull;
4. removed the old steel rudder and replaced it with a new teak rudder and appropriate fittings;
5. fitted a self-draining cockpit;
6. replaced the chainplates by stainless steel chainplates connected to the keel and interior constructions.

In restorations of this scope the shape of the ship must remain intact. A good knowledge of materials and constructions are therefore essential.

The "VARG III" was awarded the 1996 restoration prize of the Vereniging Klassieke Scherpe Jachten, the (Dutch) Society of Classic Sailing Yachts VKSJ.
